Sea Kayaking in the Sea of Cortez, Baja, Mexico

Sea Kayaking in the Sea of Cortez, Baja, MexicoIn February 2023 our Director, Cory Jones, went to Mexico to sea kayak in the Sea of Cortez. His weeks journey from Loreto out and around the Loreto Bay National Marine Park is recorded in his video of the trip.

In February the days begin with spectacular sunrises and end with delightfully cool evenings, enjoying sunsets, stargazing and moonrises. Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez / Gulf of California, “the world’s aquarium” and the islands of the Gulf are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The towering volcanic escarpments of the Sierra Giganta Mountains rising out of the sea create your backdrop and the desert land scape reaches the sea so you sleep amongst the cactus. Bird life abounds on the islands: ospreys nest on high headlands, high-flying frigate birds, blue-footed boobies and squadrons of pelicans brown pelicans congregate on submerged reefs.
