Scottish Highlands is in the Lonely Planet’s top ten places to visit. I guess we are not surprised at the designation as the region is our home and it is fabulous.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are the largest region in Scotland and home to hundreds of iconic locations, attractions and experiences. The city of Inverness, Torridon, touring routes, the Isle of Skye, and the Outer Hebrides have been identified as just some of the reasons to visit. And as the only area of the whole UK to feature in the awards, what better time to read on to find out more?

About 60-miles west of Inverness you’ll discover the dramatic setting of Torridon in Wester Ross – a true playground for hill walkers, there are lochs for canoeists and the coastal waters for sea kayakers. Venture to Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve in Kinlochewe which is home to a cluster of mountain peaks, ancient pinewoods, soaring eagles, a variety of wildlife and more. The area is so special it has recently been given UNECO Biosphere Reserve status.

The North Coast 500 runs around the northern coast and some of the most remote points of the North Highlands. Starting and finishing in Inverness, the route covers 516-miles of gorgeous Scottish landscape.
