Gairloch Canoe and Kayak Centre is happy to announce it has now become a member of Visit Wester Ross. “Visit Wester Ross” represents about 170 businesses throughout the North West Highlands. Visit Wester Ross is part of the area covered by the North Coast 500 and continues to work closely with them when required.

Currently Visit Wester Ross has a stake in the development of the West Coast Waters campaign which intends to promote Wester Ross as part of Visit Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters. 2020 will be Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters, and this is one of the ambitious collaborative projects that have been developed to celebrate Scotland’s outstanding West Coast Waters.

These projects have been developed by The West Coast Marine Tourism Collaboration which came together late in 2017. All eighteen Destination Marketing Organisations (DMOs) across the west coast formed the collaboration to undertake a major Scoping Initiative which concluded in Autumn 2018.

Visit Wester Ross regularly feeds into long term tourism planning and strategy  through the Highland Council, Visit Scotland, and others – this happens jointly along with several other VWR equivalents through the Highland’s.

A bit about Visit Wester Ross; “Originally called “Celtic Fringe”, we started out quite a few years ago now………six people huddled around a table at the Old Inn, Gairloch. Following a series of local meetings on the subject of Rural Tourism, it had become clear that many people felt that there was a need for a local community group who could identify and develop tourism based proposals for this area, working co-operatively with organisations such as VisitScotland , HIE, and Highland Council. We are a membership group, non profit making, and seek to develop our activities as being sustainable and accountable to those who live and work in this area.”
