Best Places for SUP Near Gairloch SUP

Did we mention that we offer SUP hire in Gairloch?

Bear in mind when paddleboarding that especially if you are inexperienced, the board can act as a massive sail! Paddleboards are best in absolutely no wind at all, and if there is a breeze it’s always best to find somewhere either completely sheltered, or where the wind is blowing onshore.

Red Point North

Red Point Beach is a gorgeous north facing beach, tucked away down a very long single track road. Being further away from it all it does not offer facilities but does offer a slightly quieter atmosphere- perfect for avoiding public embarrassment if you’re a bit wobbly on a SUP! This beach is one of our favourites and the drive there gives some fantastic views of the Torridon mountains and over to Skye. Free parking close to the beach is also a plus!

Firemore Beach

Firemore Beach faces to the east and is a gorgeous red sand beach which at low tide also offers some lovely little rock pools. This beach is a little further out of the way and therefore does not offer cafes/toileting facilities, but is well worth visiting nonetheless. There is also only a limited amount of parking here, though the parking is still nice and close to the beach.

Big Sand Beach

Big Sand Beach just outside of Gairloch faces Southwest and is offered some protection from onshore winds by Longa Island. As the name suggests it is a lovely white sand beach; being one of the most popular beaches in the area it offers onsite public toilets and showers, along with a shop and café close by. It is possible to park right down by the beach so there is no need for an epic trek with your SUP!

Gairloch Beach

Gairloch Beach faces to the west (offering fantastic sunsets among many other things!). It offers a nice enclosed sandy bay with parking and toilets close by (though slightly further away than at Big Sand). Being so close to the town it is a good place to stop off before sampling some of the local shops and cafes.

Bonus Beach- Red Point South

This hidden gem is one to not shout about if we want it to stay hidden! Although it takes a bit more effort to get to (at least a half hour walk in) this beach is beautiful and the quietest beach around- due very likely to the half hour walk in! The public access path takes you through Red Point Farm, so bear this in mind (keep dogs on a lead, shut gates after you, etc). The beach offers views over to Skye and a delightful, secluded atmosphere- with or without a SUP it’s well worth the walk.
