An Unexpected Journey Through Family History and Art
What began as a simple search for Florence Street in the Gorbals, where my dad George Campbell Rush was born, turned into a much deeper journey through family history and place.
Walking the streets where generations of my family once lived brought the past into sharp focus, especially when I realised just how closely their lives were tied to the River Clyde.
Crossing Albert Bridge and exploring the area revealed layers of Glasgow’s social history. An unexpected visit to Tramway in Pollokshields led to the discovery of the work of Glasgow artist Norman Gilbert, whose paintings of everyday family life echo many of the themes of memory, time and ordinary moments that quietly shape our lives.
Along the way, old schools, changing street names and the geography of the Gorbals began to weave together into a story about family, place and the ways the past still sits beneath the streets we walk today.
Come and follow the journey on Wee Wild Adventures.
